The LSU AgCenter's 2008 poinsettia open house is scheduled for Dec. 5, 2008 at the Burden Conference Center in Baton Rouge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is a list of new poinsettia cultivars grown at LSU in 2007. It includes pictures and grower evaluations based on how the cultivars performed at the Burden Center greenhouses. Twenty cultivars were selected for a consumer survey. A response of 1 indicated a strong dislike to the cultivar and a 7 indicated consumer strongly liked the cultivar.

LSU AgCenter experts say soil contamination in Jefferson and Orleans parishes from flooding after this summer’s hurricanes may not be as serious as originally feared. Initial results of tests conducted in October indicate no need for special preparations to the soils prior to planting and that there should be no danger for individuals digging or planting in the soil.
