The Body Walk Teaches Nutrition at Washington Parish Schools

Students at Thomas & Enon Elementary Schools learned about the importance of good nutrition and physical fitness through the "Body Walk," an innovative program sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and the LSU AgCenter.

Pruning trees is a good cultural practice. Fruit trees require a certain amount of annual pruning to maintain the best condition for production of high quality fruit. February is the time to prune and fertilize your plants.

Many plants have sustained some burn from the low temperatures. Palms and palm-like plants are showing signs from the freeze.

Pesticide Recertification Programs Scheduled
The date/time/locations for two recertification programs have been approved for the Washington Parish area. These programs are only for those with pesticide cards that will exppire in 2010.

You can begin to treat your lawn now to control the five most common weeds found in our area: Burweed/spurweed; Florida Betony/Ratlesnake Weed; Virginia Buttonweed; chamber bitter and Dollarweed.
Arbor Day-Cold Weather Damage-Vegetable Transplants
The third week in January is observed as Arbor Day. Consider planting trees that will add some color to your landscape. The recent cold weather has taken it's toll on the citrus trees. Don't be so eager to prune back that cold damage yet. Also, now is the time to begin seeding your vegetables for spring planting.
